You know I have felt guilty for Shy being by herself, even though its much safer for her. But I was putting my emotions in it and silently blubber to myself. Well today I walked up to the ban, looked in Shy Shy’s paddock, there she was in the corner, tongue hanging out and one foot caulked up. Then I looked on the ground and there were her peeps, groupies.. followers. Some chickens were snoozing, some going through her special droppings other romping around her hay. I had to laugh, she is not alone and I am sure she rules the roost! I was talking to Jess after the vet left. He said he drove by on the 4 wheeler and a chicken popped out of her round bale, it had gone in one of the holes that she made while digging for the sweet part of the round bale.  So yeah she is not alone she has many friends, her own little possey!

Stew from Winterport vet was out. He pulled a coggins test, as well as a little health check.  One question he asked me was WHY? Why do this. I was a little off when he asked, I was not prepared LOL. I said I tired to get her rescued in 2007, I had bonded with her then and why not. I have a huge heart for TB’s and I had to give this baby a chance. Just cause some ass hat and people that don’t know limits, why should she suffer, why not give that baby a fighting chance? Yup she cost a lot to have, without the help I received from some people I don’t even know it might have been a more bleak of a turn out, but you know what, I took her because I HAD to. For ME for HER. She is safe with me and I know she will get what she needs come hell or high water. SO yeah, I can’t turn my back on her. She is a sweet heart! She lets you now what she needs but there is not onetime I have not visited and she did not walk up to me and put her head in my chest! Long winded answer but there you have it. I love her!

Stew also let us know not to hesitate to help her when she foals, due to her head and spinal injuries. We all pipped in we got you on speed dial LOL.  I am buying her a Pancur Power Pack tomorrow for her worms. Stew said that should do it. I sure hope so she has been wormed so much! Poor girl!

I had to laugh today, Shy has learned when Shawn and I get there, we go out and let her graze on the lush green grass. Well today was no different she woke up from her slumber and walked over to the gate and stood staring at me waiting and waiting for me to get my act together! Jess had mowed the lawn so it was shorter then normal, there was tall grass over by the house and long the fence. So I put her halter on open the gate and she shot outa there like a cannon! Boy can she move, she has absolutely no grace but can cover some ground. Shawn is sitting there laughing at me! So I handed her off to him, while I went through the blankets that I am donating to a rescue, I wanted to keep a couple for myself. I look out and Where did they go??? All a sudden I see Shawn running behind her full out. I started laughing, who was walking who? She was not tolerating, that short grass she beelined it for the tall grass over by Mini the mini. I cracked up! She loves to trot around with Shawn. Mind you he has to make sure she is going in a safe direction cause she just GOES with no thought to whats in her way or what she is stepping on. Its rather funny to watch those to.

I did not get no pictures of the vet, it was full of info and me being a neurotic mom, sure Shawn and everyone that knows me can verify this with a eye roll. What can I say I rather be neurotic then someone like who took care of her before! Then I had my mustang vetted so I could get her tittle. Then I tried touching Shys boobs and was meet with hoofs, so I gave up. Got a few pictures, guess it was a *off* day. Pregomones? Maybe who knows. She is gonna really be ticked when I gotta clean them!

I will be picking up 5 bags of grain tomorrow and picking up 10 bales of second cut hay. She has a big ole round bale but she can eat and chew the second cut better so I like her to have that as well. I also gotta pick up shavings and straw, since I only have 1 bale outa the 2 I bought, straw is pricey I tell yeah! I have been getting her foaling kit together, I need to get a enema, some used towels and I have the rest of the stuff. Jen and Jess have been so helpful, they really have.

So here are two pics from her today.

This was just too cute. She is really waiting for her food

I am going to go sit and watch her on cam, her and her peeps chillin in the doorway!

Yup, is still cooking, I sear its going to be a yearling before it pops, poor shy. Glad I am not the one that has to deliver it, without pain meds… YIKES!

Shy is doing well, she has a nice big round bale to herself, it serves several uses, its nice o sit on, rob on, lay on, pee on and last but not least EAT. She prefers her second cut, but now she is out of it until Thursday. Sure she wont be impressed! She is eating her grain with gusto! She is no longer getting alfalfa, and seems to be excited about this.

I took her out and let her inhale some grass, clover was the drug of choice today, not really into the dandions like usual. I had to laugh we were out and about on the lawn, and I look around chicken surrounded us. They LOVE Shy Shy’s dropping, because of how she chews she has a lot of whole grain pieces in her *leftovers* and those chickens LOVE it. I had to laugh, here they are waiting for the next  pile to land so they can scratch it apart and pig out.

Shy is filling out REALLY well. Her belly is getting really big and her ankles are swelling some (sure you mother or expecting mothers can relate at this point). I asked her when she was going to pop, she sighed and walked away, guess thas my answer! Her boobies are getting bigger they are hard as well. Time will tell… I am now scheduling myself at work week to week so I can be there when she needs me!

The vet will be out Wed to pull her coggins and do a health exam, I can’t wait. I am so neurotic I know, I can’t help it!! I am sure I drive people nuts but hey I love my girls what can I say :)

Ok here are some pictures!

To cute

Yes, its true the way to Shy’s heart is through green grass. She waits at the gate, stomps her foot and acts like a 2 year old who has never heard the word NO. The antics would make many horse owners roll their eyes, but it makes me giggle, SHE IS ALIVE and very umm… whats the word OPINONATED!

Shy has a new nickname as well, lossey lips. I was informed that thats what Jess calls her. I love it! Its too cute, hopefully I spelled it right. We did find out onething, she does NOT like Jen looking at her boobies! Maybe its a privacy thing? I can play with them (ok that sounded wrong). OOOOO they have gotten BIGGER, hers are gonna be bigger then mine! Still only getting clear liquid out of them though but hot dang they are getting BIGGER.

I did see something disturbing today, she has worms. I found 1 worm in 2 different poop piles. She has been wormed 5 times since I have had her, with good quality wormer. So we will be coming up with a game plan, she was REALLY infested when I got her and I have not seen any, so I am wondering if its just the cycle of what she has left. I dunno. Her fecal that Chritine took came back negative. Just made my heart sank and I was so made at myself, why I dunno. Just hate seeing these things with her.

Winterport Vet will be out on the 27th to draw some blood and I also asked for a health exam for her as well. She is getting closer and closer and I think she is due, least it will make me feel better. I do want to have her skin nub addressed, its getting pulled when she gets up and getting infected. I want to make sure its ok and hoping its not bone I am seeing under there.

Shy has settled in, she already has Jen trained, and Jess too. Its really comical, Jen has now perfected the grain, just enough water, the perfect temperature AND NO MORE DANG ALFALFA! Yup were are taking her off it, she has not aquired the taste for it LOL. So she will stay on the Omelene and hay stretcher, mixed with corn oil. She has second cut hay right now. I am looking for a nice big round bale for her to eat and also use as her personal scratching post… sighs. Anyone know where there are round bales close to Winterport? Even though she REALLY prefers the grass (duhhh thats a no braina), O can’t forget the dandilions too.

Here are some pictures from today, everytime she stretched under the fence for grass, I was like I need my camera. So I made a mad dash for the car got it came back and she was standing at the fence looking at me and wouldn’t do it again. She knows she knows…..

She was stretching for the grass, but now she is pouting.

Still GROWING

Yup you read it right, no baby. I seriouly think its going to be a yearling by time that baby pops out!!! Shy is laying down more, can’t blame her really, your feet would be sore too!

She has had no more seizures and is starting to eat her grain like normal again. She is LOVING her second cut hay and the amount she gets has been bumped up. Jen suggested giving her corn oil, it will help with her bowels and also has more fat in it. So when I go out I will buy a big gallon jug of it. I saw it at hannoford yesterday for 12.99. I am also picking up some more alfalfa cubes. I got some more hay stretcher, but thats for both of my horses, so that don’t count. I also bought another bag for the rescue that was at Blue Seal yesterday, Last Chance Ranch in Troy. Wish I had cash I would have bought a T-Shirt, I so like the purple :) .

I am still waiting for hear from the vet, I might have to switch vets we will see. Shy needs a coggins pulled and I want to address her nub, (the knob of skin you see on her leg). I noticed a little while back that it had some puss on it. I treated it and then I got a good look at it the other day and I do believe you can see bone, not 100% sure. I have been keeping it clean and putting furazone on it. I think she is pulling the nub back when she gets up from laying down.

Her winter coat is almost gone!! She is a beautiful sorrel, its’ starting to get shinnier but she still has waxy dander on her back, that will come out in time. She has had 2 medicated baths, so the next one I think I will do a nice conditioning bath for her. Bet she will like that, she is getting better with baths and also the furazone spray. She seems really settled in and bright. I think she likes it here. I see her often standing 1/2 asleep staring off. Where she is they are on a hill, so the view is very pretty and peacful.

lots of love

Shy Shy

I gots LOTS to say!! Grab a cup of coffee tea or whatever and sit back and move your eyeballs back and fourth :)

Saturday Shy Shy had a special visit for a little blond haired cutie! I will scan the pictures when I get a chance but trust me they are worth waiting for! Maddy came to visit, she was scared at first but once I showed her Maggie and Shy Shy are REALLY loving she was pretty darn cool. She kindly put asked Shy when she was gonna have her baby, but all she got for a response was a big Ole sigh… Maddy did get to feel the baby wiggle and got to feed shy some wet alfalfa and carrots, that totally impressed the Queen. She even petted Shy and well Shy adored it. Maddy’s Mom and Grandma were in love as well, and are rooting for her. A day does not goes by that they ask how she is doing and send their prays. That means a lot! I am blessed with such awesome co-workers!!!

Onto some other news! Shy Shy and Maggie have a new home! They had out grown their spot that was so graciously provided by G-Bar-Ranch. Where I am at now is a little closer and closer to family. Jen and Jess at Spirit Of Hope Farm have graciously welcomed us and we can not explain how happy we are. They have taken in my 2 like they were their own!
The big move was Wed. It was a long haul, but Jess was AWESOME at going slow and going out of the way to go roads that were not as bumpy or steep hills, that grabbed my heart. Maggie leaped off the trailer and stuffed her face in the grass, I am not even sure she came up for air to be honest.
Shy Shy did have a difficult arrival. She started having seizures before we moved her, we did not recognize it at the time. We thought she was smelling the new scents of the trailer. She continued to do it when she arrived, she was laying down a lot, going in circles, not eating. It was evident she was having seizures. I have gone through this before with her and she does snap out of it, but this lasted longer then before. I need to have the vet come out and pull a coggins on her and I will ask his opinion. Until she is cleared and depending how she is coming along will determine where she is housed. Right now she has her own corral, own stall all to herself. She is separated from the herd but gets to go out for walks, munching grass and she can see the horses from where she does all this. She calls Maggie often and she comes running up and she can see Shy Shy from where she is. Its kinda cool to see the bond.

They both seem happy and content. Jen and Jess have LOTS of experience and when I come home I know I can sleep and not worry. Maybe I can even get her on cam LOL.
I just want to say Thank You to Jen and Jess at http://spiritofhopefarm.tripod.com !!!
Here are some pictures, these ones are from Saturday after a walk. The first 3 are from G-Bar  and the others are from Spirit of Hope Farm.

Finally I have a moment to do a wonderful update!!

Shy Shy is HUGE and I mean HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. She is getting so uncomfy and she is just blah. But she does not pass her food up. She is taking longer to eat, but other wise she is eating normal. I did change her grain over to something more appropriate for a mare and foal, she is also getting, her beet pulp, hay stretcher and her alpha cubes 2 times a day and all the hay her big heart can eat!!!!

Her back leg still has not fully gone down, but it has gone down some. It does swell up a little more if she is stalled at night. So next time we stall her we will be putting standing wraps on her to give her some more support. Her other legs have all healed and are back to normal. She shows no signs of pain, she trots on it, picks it up when we clean her hoofies and gets up fine. I think she just wacked it a good one!

Saturday I will be giving her another bath, and also a skin treatment. She is still dry and still shedding away. I want her to least have one more before she foals!

I did spray her down with fly spray well today, and also put swat on her loins, under belly, ears, jaw, neck and legs to help with thos dang black flies GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr. If its not snow its the mud if its not the mud its the dang black flies! I am ready for them to go and by the looks of the horses I think they agree.

Shy Shy has started bagging up more then she was!!! Both her boobies are pudgy and soft. I forgot to expel some liquid from it to see the color. I was a little side tracked with the black things! So I will do that tomorrow when I get out. She is so big its scary, everyone PLEASE keep your fingers and toes crossed that there is only one in there!  So we should be having a baby here soon and I am scared to death! She is 17, head trauma, spinal injury and under weight. A healthy 17yr old mare can be at risk of a rough delivery/pregnancy as it is and to add all of this PLUS being malnurished I HATE PPL sometimes! Irresponsible ppl who leave others to clean their messes up, yup I am bitter I think I have that right! I digress :(

I have fallen in love with this mare head over heels I tell yeah. She is sooooooo lovey and fullof life all in one breath! The way she cuddles with me and knickers just makes my heart thump harder, even when she is onry I can’t help but smile. I am excited some of my co -workers are coming out with their kids and Shy LOVES the kids, specially if they have carrots of apples! So I can not wait to see Shy snuggle up with the kids and enjoy being oogled over!!

Here are some pictures, the white stuff on her is swat!

They are filling up, they look bigger in person though.
