Spa day!

What a wonderful day!

Shy Shy’s legs are looking better her back right one is still swollen but she is trotting around like a mad woman so thats a good sign!! She seems to be liking Maggie alright, when Maggie leaves she lets out a few hollers then she goes about her thang.

I did give her a nice bath today, first it was a betadine bath, scrubbed right in mane, tail and body. It was rinsed thoroughly and then a aloevera bath and medicated shampoo was applied rubbed in ( I think this was her favorite part), all the parts washed and a nice clean udders emerged :) . There was TONS of big black flakes of dirt, scabs and just plain ickies all over her. Was so nasty! She was super cooperative with everything even the private parts, usually she stomps, walks off or tried to kick yeah in the shins! I am so proud of her!!!!  Now she no longer has that sticky waxy feeling on her coat and she is shiny and soft!

I decided not to do her hooves today, I don’t want to aggitate her legs right now, let them heal first then I will do another trim. They are looking better as well. They are thrush free, the cracks are gowing out and healthy hoof is emerging… YIIIIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

What else did we do today, hmmm we walked around the yard, ate grass, nosed around and chilled. She looked like she was feeling better today, more sociable, not as hot and her mouthy self :) .

I bought to bags of grain today 1 bale of hay and a round bale. That all came to $78. Maggie and Shy share a round bale though. I will do a big grain run this weekend, I like to stalk up. For some reason I hate seeing the bin 1/4 full. I have been forcing myself not to buy it cause that grain needs to be eaten and not spoil. Good thing I got a full time job! Sheewwiee!

Baby, still baking! No udder change nothing except she is getting wider and wider and wider did I mention she is wider? Man I pitty her thats a lot of baby in there. I am praying to the stars there are not twins in there!

KK here are two pictures, I was getting the excess water off her, no pics of the actual bath cause hubby was holding her for me, I seriously need a few more arms LOL.

Really clean and so soft!

While I was getting the water off Shy is this what Maggie was doing!!

While I was getting the water off Shy is this what Maggie was doing!!

I have been missing my girls ALL week. Thank God this week I am on days so I can go out least 3 times. I went out today and a few changes had been made, I was worried and kinda shocked. Maggie (my wild mustang) and Shy Shy are now pasture roomies. Maggie is a Alpha mare and young, so I was worried about her not accepting Shy. When I got there they were doing fine, Maggie of course wanting me all to herself and Shy Shy was more interested in rubbing on her round bale and eating it. So That worked.

I guess before I got there they were separated by a gate (think its a around pen panel the steel kind). Well Shy wanted out and knocked it over. I was not there so not sure exactly how they were fighting or whatever. I did notice immediately when I looked at Shy Shy her legs were REALLY swollen (pictures below). So I put a rope halter on her and checked her they were warm, puffy and had some scratches and missing skin. My heart sank, I was pissed and scared all in one fell swoop. I try so hard to protect her but I swear she has 4 left feet, I really do. So I brought her around back and cold hosed her legs. Her front left knee is pretty puffy, the nub on her right is ripped but and looks ok it will heal back. Her right back leg is the worst. There is nothing broken that I can tell, I think when she knocked or thrashed or whatever she did with the dang gate that she banged up her legs pretty good. I have cold hosed them twice today and I will be out tomorrow and assess her again. She is walking fine slow, and her head hung low, but I think the sun, her huge belly and this all is a lot for her. Last thing she needed but a horse is a horse and all us owners know if its not one thing its another. For now I am going to let her rest, keep cold hosing and asked Gina to watch her closely for me. I prefer her to be left outside for the night tonight as well so if she needs the extra room to lay down and get up she has it. Man I feel so awful, I hate seeing my animals hurt I really really do. Monday I will give the vet a call and if they think they should come out then thats what will happen! I wanted to add this on, if I felt Shy needed a vet now I would call. She can trot on her own at will and just seems she jarred them.

While I had her out hosing she snacked on some fresh green grass thats coming up. She was really liking that. She also had a few chewed carrots, those she REALLY loves. She is almost done shedding YEAHHHHHH. Her belly is still pretty long, but the round bale seems to be helping LOL.

The baby subject, sighs. Yup you guessed it she is STILL cooking that thing. Geesh is it gonna be a yearling when it comes out??? She has dropped. She has a chunk of white wax on her left udder, but no milk. She is lifting her tail a lot, not sure what that means. The sides of her butt on either side of her spine has caved in some and jiggles when you poke it. I took some pictures of her belly so you can see. OH, before my brain shuts off, remember how you could see her hip bones like a lot? Well they disappeared!!!! No hip bones!!! YEAHHHHHHHHH.

Tomorrow is bath day, I did not have any help today, as it takes one person to hold her and one to bath her as she does not stand tie. I will also be doing her hooves as well. So I declare Sunday SPA day!

I do want to thank Gina for stepping in for me while I am working. I am trying to get overtime to buy a home so my animals can be with me. Gina has done with out a complaint or anything. She has 5 of her own so its no small feat and My husband and I appreciate more then anyone can ever know!!

Where are those hip bones!!! So excited!

Where are those hip bones!!! So excited!

I wonder if I should do a raffle for graphics design, or something see who can guess her due date. We are all puzzled. Far cry from a Feb/March baby for sure!! She is starting to hang low, but her udders are not changing whatsoever. She is just getting wider and wider and drooping more and more.

I went out today and she was in her usual spot eating hay and enjoying the warm weather. I brought her in so she could have some lunch (hay) and get out of the sun and have some nice cool water that mommy got out of the hose for her :) . I let her eat, and it was cute she wanted to only eat facing the herd, always keeping an eye on them. Its really sweet to see, she loves her herd. While she ate I went and groomed my stang. Maggie loves to lick my car, O and now I owe hubby a new antenna cause I was not paying attention… sighs.

After getting Maggie settled I walked into the barn with her musical whinnies and her waiting at the door. She got even more excited when she saw me with the rope halter, between a whinny and snorts I put her rope halter on, mind you NOW she puts her nose in it and no longer balks… so cool.
We went for a short walk, sniffed the poo pile (why o why), sniffed the dirt pawed at it, sniffed the horse trailer and nickered at it. Then we went on some grass and face immediately eating. We know what her week point is huh? I used the shedding blade, she still has a lot of hair on her. I think she has shed out at least one mini!! While I was grooming her I noticed she has really slapped on some weight. Her hip bones are GONE!!!! Its got a fat pad on it and her Back and hip bones and a small fat pad! THATS HUGE!!! She has come along so nicely! Guess $200 bucks a month in just grain does wonder huh? O and all the hay she wants. She deserves it though, after all she has been through, its time someone thought of her not themselves!

I did want to mention a story that has been in the making. I found out about this errr month or so ago. A little pony named Honey. What a story, a sick one to boot. Something has to be done to these people that hoaurd animals, breed and breed and breed when they don’t have the money to even care for one properly, ones that are KNOWN neglecters having horses again, the no room excuse need to be delt with. These poor animals with feeling and loyalties get cast aside and it makes my blood boil. Not to mention the ones taken them in getting harrassed by the owners. You gotta laugh at the *they were never neglected nor abused*, *I feed them… haystretcher*, * they have shelter, thats what trees are for*, * I feed them to bad the other horse ate it all*. Give me a freaking BREAK! They need their asses nailed to the flipping wall and hung out to dry and HUMILIATED. But no that wont happen, shhhhhh put it under the rug. Ok I need to stop ranting or I will send my head flying cause of my blood pressure.
Here is Honey’s Story. ( I do not know this man, nor his business, all negative comments will not appear on this blog) I am simply putting a voice for this poor pony!  http://www.wlbz2.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=103682&catid=3

And Shy Shy is loving it! I catch her napping in the sun all the time now, or just even standing and soaking it up. She looks so happy and content, makes me feel so good that she is doing so well!!

She has been eating her breakfast in the morning then does not come back in until around 5 or 6 at night. She even knows her order of which horse goes first and when she is expected to go! She trots right into her stall and gobbles her food and settles in for the night with her pile of hay. Her stall is nice and cushy, with a stall mat and plenty of sawdust to keep her comfortable. I have noticed she is really liking her hymilain salt block as well.

I went to Agway today, bought beet pulp, sponges, iodine and a medicated shampoo. I had full intentions of giving her a head to toe bath, but that dang wind picked up and I didn’t dare to do it. Grrrrrrr. She still has the creepy crud but its getting better. Her coat is starting to get less dull in some areas and she has shed out a miniture pony :) .

She came into visit with me today (least I like to think it was me, but really Gina and I were feeding the girls out of the other pasture their meal, so it was the call of the grain that got her). Anyways, she stood so I took the shedding blade and feed her 1/2 chewed carrots and she was in heaven. She is super itchy so this is just what she needed. Her head hung low and she was drooling orange drool, eyes 1/2 closed and just in heaven. God forbid I stop though, and if I spent to much time on one spot she would move around to where it felt better. Man I love this girl!!!

Good grief I think I am going to go NUTS!!!! This baby is STILL baking away, if she gets any bigger she wont fit through the stall door!! Good grief! No udder change, no mood change nor appetite. She is just enjoying being a horse, a *normal horse*. This suspense is KILLING me! One thing we have going for us is its giving us more time to get more nutrients and vitamins on board. So I am thinking her foal will have a better chance then the other mares that were breed.

Yes, I did get some pictures today!!! YEAHHHHHH so here they are!

She is looking so good!

Is it close to the egg shape?

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted. Nothing earth shattering has happened. Thats a good thing so I am not complaining at all.

Shy has been staying out ALL day!!! She is chilling with her buddies, soaking up the sun and eating away. When I arrived today, I peeked around the corner and all 4 horses were sprawled out in the sun, including Shy Shy!! I giggled then muttered how stupid I was to forget to bring the camera once again. I did take pictures on my cell phone but I don’t have the doohickey to hook it up to my laptop to retrieve the picture! Anyways, I sat beside her rubbed her scratched her and she actually laid her head in my lap. Call me corny but I teared up. All us horse lovers know thats a big thing, that is trust through and through!

Gina and I taped her on Easter Sunday and we are proud to say according to our records she has gained 180#, granted we have NO clue what % is baby and how much is fat/muscle. She Looks better for sure, she is not as bony and her butt and chest are filling out. Her spine and ribs still show a little but that is attributed to her pregnancy. I am just thanking our lucky stars we got weight on her when we did. Us horsey people know that after having a baby a mare can look rather thin, imagine if we had not got this weight on her what shape she would have been in, I cringe at the thought and thankful she wont go there!!

Still no baby, sighs. I think its gonna bake in there FOREVER!!!! So much for the Feb/March baby huh. I knew the sources were not reliable to begin with. I am glad the foal will be born in nice warm weather. Her groin area is swollen, like in the far back where the bag would start. So hopefully thats a sign and it will start filling.

I do have to say the Princess and we reffer to her as on a daily basis is really pepping up. She wants to be out, but yet she wants to be where we are, I swear her noseyness gets the best of her. Her BFF Derby is doing well by her, they groom each other daily and hang out together, its really cute to see.

Thats about it for now. Friday I am getting pictures even if I have to duct tape that camera to me it will happen!! Take care all and enjoy the sunshine and the birds!!!

Look at that plump butt!!

Look at that plump butt!!

Well, Shy has been with me for 2 months. She has gained weight, her hooves are coming along, thrush is gone, her eye is 100% healed as far as the ulcer goes, she is going outside almost ALL day, she is no longer scarfing her food and is leaving hay behind.

She is still choking, still balling her food. Still off balance, still has skin issues and never will gain her full mobility back ever.

She has come LEAPS and BOUNDS!!! She is sassy, loving and nosey!! All good qualities, least in my eyes!

It killed me not seeing her for 3 days, poor Gina. But Gina took awesome care of her. I think Gina is in love. I mean who else would help her clean stalls and keep her company right? Who else will knicker and scream at her when she is 5 minutes late for breakfast and who else melts like butter when you give her scratchen??

When I got to the barn today after work, she was standing on the other side of the gate watching Gina clean stalls. She is so nosey its funny. She is like the kid that can’t go pee or go to bed because they might miss something. Its awesome to see cause she stood with a blank stare on her face when I got her. Now she is full of P&V!!!

I brushed her, and scratched, picked her humungo eye boogies and Gina and I took her for a walk, well tried anyways. She wanted to run and buck. She is feeling the spring air! I think she likes to show off for the young ones in the front pasture to be honest! I am trying really hard to keep her at a walk. She can barely do that without tripping, vearing off or falling. Let alone trot, canter or buck. I want her to walk now since the ground is smooshy and muddy and she has a special package inside!!  I did find out one thing, she can spin like a dang top!!!!

We were on the side of the driveway, she found some grass and the dog decided to jump in the brook, well lets say she hauld butt and spooked. HOLY CRAP batman! It wasn’t graceful, and she comes right at you but thank god her belly is so big her momentum takes a bit to get going LOL.

Saturday when I go out I am gonna tape her again, see what the magic numbers are!!! I can’t wait. She has not bagged up no more, showed any other signs of birth, so we are just hanging out chilling and getting spunky!

I did pick up more hay for her(4 bales)  at $4.50 per bale, truck load of shavings at $36.50. I need to also make a payment on her ever growing vet bill at Dover as well. Good thing I got a job, LOL. Gotta clean up irresponsible peoples mess!

KK I might post again later!

Take care

Pictures…

It was a typical day for Shy as usual. She went outside for most of the afternoon, loving on the round bale, staying out of Misty’s way and chilling. It was kinda cute, I brought my 2 inside and put Mazzie at the far end and Maggie in the stall where the gate separates to the pasture. I was feeding them and who beebops in? Shy, sniffing, and being nosy. So I threw her a flake of hay and there she stood eating and mingling. She even shared the hay with Maggie who was grabbing it from under the gate (man is she flexible). After we brought the others back out, I walked back into the barn thinking I need to let Shy in… nope she went back out with the others. She is such a social butterfly… I love it!

She was out til about 2:30 today. I offered her to go back out later but she had no interest. So I was picking up my tools and brushes. When she saw me with the brush she started nickering, totally ignoring her hay. Ok, I chuckled and started brushing, OOOOOOO did she love that. Lips going, wide stance she was LOVING it. She acted a little disappointed when I stopped. She still has the curly hair from the rain. Her coat is also looking so much better, she still has sores here and there, but they are on the mend. I am keeping a vigilant eye on it for sure.

The top of her butt is starting to cave in, you know how mares get when they are getting ready to foal, her topline is more visable as well. Her right udder fills my hand now,  she has gotten fuller then she was the last few days. So I think we are getting close… I can’t wait!! But yet I can I guess. I just hope its healthy, that is all that matters that momma and baby are healthy.

I did pick up 2 more bags of grain today. So Shy will have enough to last her while I am doing my job orientation. Now if she can hold that package in at least  until the weekends I will be happy. I know selfish but man I wanna be there!!!

KK pictures as promised. believe me she is HUGE!

There is a special package in there!

Her uddders. Still not much but the farthest one over is bigger today.

Her uddders. Still not much but the farthest one over is bigger today.

Shy is feeling her oats!!! She was rather ticked at Gina this morning because she did not let her out when everyone else went out. She was carrying on like a mad woman, to the point of not caring about her food!!! So our plan now is, to let her out with everyone in the morning and then after an hour bring her in to eat her breakfast. See how that works. Personally I think she wants out there so she can use the round bale to scratch every inch of her, a nice roll, nice drink out of the trough (water must taste better if its out all night instead of FRESH water inside) snack on the salt block THEN she wants in.

Today was a little crazy, I let her out, while Gina and I brought the other 4 horses in. We needed to feed them and also provide vet care to my mustang and roll out some round bales. Then it started pouring. I am thinking she is gonna FREEZE, she has shed out so bad. I looked out called her name she gave me the over the shoulder look like did you call me, telling her to come on in, she kept looking at me put her nose in the air and turned back to eat. WELL THEN. So be it stay out. Well after about 1/2 hour she decided she wanted to come in, I had left the gate 1/2 open so she could. She mingled with my two, starred at the other two and snacked on hay. A few squeals but all was well. After we cleared out the barn, I put her in her normal stall so we could strip that side of the barn, with her in it it takes forever! She wants to be rubbed, scratched, food and this and that. Well I put her over in her foaling stall with hay and water mind you and boy did she WHALE!! All of a sudden Derby comes ripping into the barn hollering back at her. I have not seen that horse move that fast in a LONG time. Her knight and shinning armor hung around till  I gave up. I put her back out. She stood at the gate the whole time… I knew what she wanted GRAIN. She heard us dishing it out. She put her head under the rope holding the gate closed, she rubbed on it, she batted her eyes, you name it she tried it. Little whipper snapper!!!

Health wise, she is coming along. Her skin is coming along, the areas are still really itchy, but the old ones have new hair coming in. She is still choking and balling on a regular basis. Least now I don’t freak out, I just wet her food more and let her take care of it, she has never had to have me intervene, but I am prepared if I need too.

She is super warm, I can’t take her temp because the thermometer just flops around because of the spinal injury. I am reassured its normal for this far into a pregnancy. Her udders have clear liquid but nothing close to what she needs to have. She is getting very guarded about her udders and vulva being inspected or touched. So we are watching from a distance. Her belly has gotten HUGE HUGE HUGE, if she gets much bigger she wont fit through the stall door LOL. Seems the last few days she has gotten REALLY big. She also seems to be hanging lower also. Who knows, its will be a surprise!!

She is loving her hay, yes she is completely off dengie and on second cut hay. I am giving her what she wants. I did get some first cut hay and will be giving that to her also, so I don’t give her to much rich hay. I did pick up a gallon of mineral oil today for 15.99 in Newport, which I thought was a steal! Tomorrow I will be heading to Dover to pick up some haystretcher, shavings and vitamins.

I have figured out 1 bag of beet pulp, 1 bag of horsemans edge sweet, 1 bag of horsemans edge pellets, 1 bag of hay stretcher, last me close to 2 weeks. Alfalfa cubes last me little over 2 weeks. Shavings I am going though 1 bag every day. We are keeping it more padded in her stall for the fact she is getting a lot heavier and I don’t want her stocking up at all. So you figure all that grain comes to around $76 bucks. Shavings I buy 4 at a time for 19.80. So 152.00 a month for grain. I don’t even DARE calculate what I am paying in shavings ( I need to get a way to get sawdust). Her vitamins, mineral oil, and cream cost about $45 a month. She is no easy keeper, but just her personality and viberence makes up for it all!!!!

I did also just buy her a himalyan salt block she LOVES it. I put it in her run in so just she gets it and I never even got it hung up, she was licking it while it was in my hand. Least this once she can’t crunch and gobble.

Next week and half, the updates are not going to be as plentiful. Since I took Shy on I have decided to go get another job on top of lessons and web design and the million other things I do to make money. So during my orientation I wont be able to be out to see Shy everyday. Believe me I will be calling Gina  a ZILLION times a day checking in on her and if anything does happen (baby popping out) my hubby will be there and I will get there as soon as I can. She is in good hands so I am not worried, I am just worried I will go through horse with drawl!! I do plan on letting Shy know she shouldn’t be popping that package out least till I am around!!! I got the typical look and she walked off.

I promise to get pictures tomorrow and no need to adjust your screen, her belly is REALLY that big!!

Take care all.

April Fools

I wish it was sunnier and I wish there was a baby on the ground and I wish I had a million bucks LOL. There hows that.

I didn’t get any pictures today, but the baby has shifted again in Shy. She looks wider then a mac truck!! Her ribs are showing more in the front as well, but wouldn’t yours holy cow she is HUGE! Her udders are the same, clear liquid comes out so we have a ways to go. My GUESS is middle of April. They say mares bag up 4-6 before they pop… this is her 3rd week so I am thinking she is gonna take the whole six weeks. But who knows, I think she likes messing with my head. Its entertaining you know!!

Shy went for a walk today, to the house and around the drive way. She did good still has troubles where the ground is soft or the divits in the dirt. I am just letting her do her thing and getting her to SLOW DOWNnnnnnnnnnnn. She is not fond of that but I am not found of a 1140lb horse falling on me either.  So she was doing well I was going to take her down the driveway. BUT THEN!!!! SHE CAME ALIVE. Holy cow she is 100% TB through and through. I am wondering if she was ever trained off the track or was pulled from the track into her *new crappy life*. Cause she saw the 4 horses in the pasture that goes along the driveway and instantly collected and pranced. Mind you she has very little coordination. I am thinking o dear I grabbed the SHORT lead line. GREATTTTTTTTTtttttttttt, I am such a blond.

Well once she got walking past the other horses (separated by fence) I think she went in racing mode. I jiggled the lead, she knows this as slow down be easy. Well she collected her head with plenty of impulsion LOL. Then she pranced and reared bucked, with a mighty rough landing. She got herself collected so I circled her and brought her back down, well she circled tight and off she went again LOL. I wouldn’t have minded so much if I had a longer line. She was ready to rip. Good grief, I still don’t think she gets her body is not what it used to be. She sorta realizes when she lands from her *episodes* and looks at me like O crap. So mental note, next time bring a longer line with me.

Now she is tucked in her stall eating her nice warm mash and 2 flakes of hay, next to her BFF.

I went and picked up 4 bags of shavings $19.80

Beet plulp $16.49, Horsemans Edge $12.69, Alfalfa Cubes, 13.29

So she is set for another week or so.

KK I am froze, its cold out there so I am gonna go warm up and check the mail to see if my certificate of ownership has come for my Wild Mustang!! Take care and more pictures either Friday or Saturday!!
